🛡️ EXPEDITION PROTOCOLS

High-Altitude Safety, AMS Protocols & Environmental Responsibility

High Himalayan terrain demands rigorous preparation, specialized equipment, and zero-compromise environmental stewardship:

⛰️ Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) Management

Ascend no more than 1,000–1,500 ft sleeping elevation per day above 9,000 ft. Watch for early AMS symptoms: headache, nausea, fatigue, and insomnia. If symptoms progress to ataxia (loss of coordination) or persistent cough (HAPE/HACE warning), descend immediately by at least 2,000 ft.

🧭 Certified Mountain Guides & Navigation

Never trek solo across unmarked trans-Himalayan passes (Gadsar, Tarsar, Bhot Khol). Engage certified guides registered with the J&K Tourism Department or Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF). Carry topographic topo maps, GPS navigation devices, and satellite emergency communicators.

🚯 Leave-No-Trace Alpine Code

Pristine glacial lakes (Gangabal, Vishansar, Nandan Sar) are drinking water sources for downstream millions. Camp at least 200 feet away from water bodies. Pack out all non-biodegradable trash, instant noodle wrappers, gas canisters, and batteries. Strictly avoid open campfires in sub-alpine forests.
